Reflexology has been around for thousands of years. Most Ancient civilisations have evidence of a form of foot therapy. Even though various forms of ‘Reflexology’ have been around for so long it has only been researched and developed into what it is today over the past 100 years or so.
Trials, investigations and research into the positioning and effectiveness of Reflex points that are found on the feet, hands, face and ears have been ongoing with beneficial results, particularly with pain relief among others. Eunice Ingham was the lady who ‘mapped’ the specific points and helped bring about the popularity of the therapy.
Reflexology is believed to be based on the same principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and their acupressure points. The difference is that the whole body can be mapped on the feet or the hands, face and ears. When stimulated through pressure it can help release blocked energy that is caused be various imbalances and help the body to rebalance itself and heal.
The treatment itself will feel like a relaxing foot massage that uses pressure to stimulate the reflex points found on the feet, so you expect the pressure to be firm but still therapeutic.
To start the treatment a relaxing foot massage takes place first. This helps to relax the feet and help the client to become comfy and used to the pressure and feel of the therapy. The treatment then continues by working through the 10 systems of the body…
Lymphatic system
Endocrine system
Reproductive system (if required)
Digestive system
Urinary system
Respiratory system
Head system
Muscular system
Skeletal system and
Stress system
During the routine all the major areas and organs of the body are stimulated. The treatment will be tailored to suit the clients requirements and it may be decided that certain points are avoided whilst others have more time spent receiving treatment.
During the course you will learn:
Health and Safety
Client care and communication
Anatomy and Physiology
History and Theory of Reflexology
Reflexology Routines
Adapting a Reflexology Treatment
Case studies
Home study assignments and case studies are required.
The course will be accredited with ABT, CMA and IPHM (Associated Beauty Theraists, Complemenatry Medical Association and International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine) and is fully insurable.
