DAY 1
• ‘A Brief History of Shibari’
Discover all about the art of Shibari, from its origins to its evolving aesthetics and purposes in a short but complete powerpoint talk. Tea and coffee provided.
• ‘The Body In Ropes’
Rope is not about rope. It’s about people! In this section of the day we will take you through several body manipulation exercises, first without any rope at all and then also with rope.
• ’Connecting In Ropes’
When we speak about connection in ropes, we are speaking about using the ropes to convey emotions, feelings and intent. We cannot teach you how or what to feel, but we can teach you how to express yourself through proper control of the ropes. This means learning about ‘tension’, ‘flow’ and ‘rope handling’.
• ‘Tying’
Ropes are a language. Before making poetry we must learn our ABC’s. Here you will learn how to speak with rope, build harnesses using some of the fundamental ‘rules’ and aesthetics of Shibari.
• ‘Safety & Anatomy : Taking Care Of Your Hardware and Your Software’
Rope bondage is a lot of fun but it also comes with risks, so let's stay safe. We'll cover safety and anatomy information and also talk a bout some of the emotional and psychological impacts of doing rope.
DAY 2
• The Takate Kote
It’s the quintessential shibari form and the one pre-requisite for most shibari classes & workshops. Learn the basic principles and pattern of the two rope Takate Kote (or ‘TK’). You’ll also learn about tension, flow, anatomy, safety & communication.
• ‘Shapes’
Now that you can speak Shibari, and have are familiar how the body works, let’s create some beautiful shapes on the floor that you can play with! We will demonstrate how you can tie legs, arms and torso using the techniques you learned in the previous section, and you will be able to copy these or make up your own shapes and ties.
• ‘Closing Circle’
Thoughts, feelings, wishes, revelations, let’s share before going home!
After this weekend you will have all the tools, body, mind and soul, to start playing and connecting with your partner(s). You'll also meet the pre-requisites for a lot of the special guest classes we offer!
