Misha Gray's Prehistoric Jazz Quintet at The Wonder Inn

In 2008, a flute was discovered in the Hohle Fels cave in Germany that was thought to represent the earliest known musical instrument.

The flute is made out of a vulture's wing bone perforated with five finger holes. Carbon dating suggests that the instrument was made approximately 35,000 years ago. Several similar Paleolithic flutes have also been found in this region.

These flutes are therefore 'Prehistoric', meaning that they were made before the advent of writing. This means that music ...
